Design of the Nokia N82, according to me, is the worst part about the phone. This device has a simple candy bar design with silver face. The hardware feels very cheap and plasticky which is not acceptable in a phone like this.

Heheh – saying iPhones have crap camera's is an understatement. They're terrible. I ended up getting an N82 and love it… The only problem I find in mine is that it doesn't catch the deep blues as well as the Canon SD1000.

they have crap battery too im lucky if my n82 lasts a full 24 hours. Thats when i dont use it, if you live in a weak 3g area id force the phone to 2g saves loads of power on all phones because its not constantlys switching network speeds i would any day swap my n82 for a iphone. I will say iphones have crap cameras gotta love my carl zeis tessar 5mpixel on the n82 and the amazing flash

I just bought the N82 last week and agree. Battery life sucks… But I'm doing a lot more with it than I did with the iPhone. Constant use of GPS, video, camera+flash…

It's not good, for certain, but I can pack an extra battery.

My plan is to carry both the N82 and iPhone 3G. iPhone 3G for most everything phone and Internet worthy, and N82 for Qik'ing, video, and photography.

I have had the n82 for a couple of weeks and I am finding that the battery life is not good at all. I have swithced everything off, wifi, bluetooth, 3g etc and this still appears to be a problem even without me actually using the phone for anything.

I agree with you 100%, but I can't part as I have also embraced my iphone as the social keystone of my very existence.

By the way, check out iphonevideorecorder on installer. Its been improved several times since release and is now very stable, produces high quality (relative to cell phone quality) video and is instantly uploadable to youtube straight from the phone. Very cool indeed.

The battery complaints of the Nokias are a fear, but the battery is replaceable, so I can carry some spares. That can be a pain, but better than carrying two phones.

My iPhone is set to connect to networks it knows and not ask for others. I'd bet that feature, while away from a home base, is sucking up some of the power while live-blogging. I'll switch that setting off and and see if I can get more than the current 2 hours of constant use.

I think the N82 is a fine product, but of course does not have the elegant UI of the iPhone. Have you tried some of the power-saving tips with the iPhone? One of them is to turn off the seeking new WiFi function, which causes the WiFi transceiver to constantly search for new open networks. Turning this off can dramatically improve battery life. You can also get a battery from a few different vendors, which clamps onto the back. Kinda clunky, but it works if you're a heavy user. Double check the Nokia battery life in the real world, too–I've heard many complaints of N-Series phones having lousy battery life when used normally.
