Glad to hear from you, and congrats on a stupendous device. You’ll love it.

Facetime is great. Skype would also work. The trick is needing a good Internet connection. Gordon doesn’t have wifi at his house, so unless the iPad has 3G we’d have a challenge. If you have wifi, it’d work at your house though. I’ve suggested Gordon get himself a web cam, too… He’s having trouble with Skype though.

Thank you very much, helpful stranger, for taking the time to do this… just had to switch to a new Tracfone ’cause the old one had the battery die… major headache getting VM set up, at least 4 calls and over 2 hours of time. I really wanted to get the direct/landline # so I could get my VMs through Google voice without having to pay extra from my cell… and you made it easy for me by sharing this info -so thanks again.

Design of the Nokia N82, according to me, is the worst part about the phone. This device has a simple candy bar design with silver face. The hardware feels very cheap and plasticky which is not acceptable in a phone like this.

Hi Paul – this still works like a charm. I strongly advise not to use boot camp unless you absolutely need raw machine level power (gaming, hardware driver development, 100,000,000,000 files open at the same time, etc). An i5 with 4 gigs of memory will be more than enough. You may not want to run 2 vms concurrently, but 1 and OSX will rock.

Win7 is more efficient than XP, so you'll be even happier than I was when I originally wrote this post!

Hey Sol. I'm considering either going this route or parititioning the MacBook HD and using BootCamp/Windows 7 on one half the disk. I can do VMs under the Windows 7 install. Downside of this is that rebooting is required to go from one OS to the other.

Are you still using this setup? Is it still fast enough using the latest OSs and VMWare? I'm thinking of picking up a MacBook i5 for the work. Think that will work?

From there, check out the FAQ... There are links to some good instructions on setting up your phone. Following them isn't so hard, but might seem daunting at first. The payoff is worth it though :)

That's a good way to go and good workaround. I got in and got out without sticking in the crowd on Saturday. Unlocking on a friends or store computer does the trick, but it's still a workaround to an avoidable problem.

Or, the user could have unpacked the iPad at the store, synced it with one of the Mac computers on display, and walked out of the store with a working iPad. Apple was doing that for customers who requested it on Saturday; I'm sure Best Buy could do the same.

No, this is using the standard Android Internet plan ($30.00 per month). Note: If you use a lot of bandwidth with your Android phone, T-Mobile may put restrictions or disable your account… If you use their network for massive data use, be warned that you'll likely get throttled or bumped.

Mine was from eBay and it was OEM (or a good enough fake that it fit) so it
worked out just right. Even if there are junk versions being produced now,
I'd still recommend eBay (just beware of this as you shop).

ok, i've successfully broken my lcd screen, and replaced it following your instructions. I did a great job, thanks to you but here is my problem. The replacement lcd screen isn't the same as the original. It's dimmer, not as sharp and colorful as the original. I can't seem to find an exact oem replacement screen. Where did you get yours from, and is it the same as the original?

Agreed. Hitslink reports have all been adjusted down by about 50%.
Number of users versus number of machines is another measure not
considered (lots of windows machines are in service, but aren't
primary machines). Mobiles market share is also an oddity since most
mobile devices have windows or mac using owner.

I'm not sure about this, just throwing something on the table here;
The airplane was rented, hence operated for "compensation or hire"?
Or is it the purpose of the flight they relate to? Never really gotten this answer straight from anyone...

An example for the last option would be; a flight-school that in addition to doing flight lessons, rents out airplanes for rental flights.
If you are going up with your instructor, you will need your landing lights, because the instructor is flying for compensation. Right?
What if you two also are friends and want to rent the airplane and go for a short flight? Would this require the landing light? This takes me back to the first questions...

I would imagine that the purpose of the flight is what counts.

Then, what if your friend (which is also an instructor) decide to make the rental flight a flight-lesson, but he won't charge you anything? On the contrary, he will pay you 50% of the expenses for the flight...

I've gone back and forth between a single codebase on my machine. I never
had a problem with speed, but for SVN repositories it became a bit
cumbersome. What I did to get around it was to only handle checkouts and
commits on the Mac. Originally I was trying to do this on the PC, too, and
was having trouble.

sol, thanks for the prompt feedback. as i said, i tried it a long while ago and i haven't tested all the scenarios you mention. but it does have several hundreds of files that change a lot (collaborative env, automatic codegen) and we use incredibuild. it was my ideal scenario to maintain only a single code base on the mac, but the slow compile killed that effort then. i may revisit this approach.

I find it faster than a mapped network drive, but slower than if the
files were on a local virtual disk. It's noticible for a major
project, but only on the first build or a clean and build.

Even for medium sized projects it works very well fe me without a
significant delay. What kind of delays are you seeing?

It was great and haven't considered switching back… At least not to the 9000. Future BlackBerrys may be competitive. I still have the 9000 and use it for testing of various mobile services from time to time, but it's definitely not a pleasure compared to the 3G S.

Good point – getting part of the message also opens up the ability to
preview the pushed message. Plenty of times you don't even have to go to
your inbox.

I have used this method with my plain old flip phone for many years. It is great for monitoring email from the really important people. I do not get the whole message, but I generally get enough to justify firing up the notebook.

Maybe the best way now is to add a blog to Flickr's image blog feature… I
haven't tried it yet. It would allow staying on Flickr's site the entire
time. I'll do a test post later.

Thanks for the link and I'm glad you liked my post! As for the wrong number calls.. yeah I think it depends *entirely* on the history of that particular number. I just got put in the wrong situtation twice, with my GV number and my Vonage number. oh well, just a few “report as spam” and all is well!

It was a little tricky, but not bad. While you've got it almost at
that point take a few minutes (or more) to study how you'll pop it
off. It's rather easy and any damage from the disassembly will be to
the broken screen (that you're replacing anyway).

This integration is wonderful. I was uploading my photos on my G1, navigating to Flickr, copying around the URL, and pasting it into Twitter after using tr.im or bit.ly.

One question, why did you make the structure http://flic.kr/p/6ui51S instead of: http://flic.kr/photoid (i.e. http://flic.kr/162306830) which is a one character difference?

I recently came across a new app that is being built for bugzilla on iPhone.

This iphone app for bugzilla is called iBzilla that lets you access bugs from your phone. It seems you can configure multiple bugzilla instances, View My Bugs, Search for any bug(s) in any product, component, version using standard Bugzilla fields and create New Bugs.

Not sure if it has background processing to automatically notify of new bugs but this is under development. We'll have to wait to see when this gets launched. I can not wait to try my hands on it. Check it at http://www.ibzilla.com

The big bang would have occurred at a specific point (or multiple points, if you subscribe to multiple bangs), and matter would travel outward from that point. It would have an origin that is absolute, but every other point would be relative based on an origin.

We don't know precisely, but we can make estimates based on the expansion and shifts in the universe. This isn't necessary however, since we can still make calculations based on our movement over time.

Another interesting thing is that atoms may also be expanding. Not only could someone end up in the wrong place, but they may also be larger or smaller (assuming the atoms didn't resize based on the time/location).

It shouldn't reset it since the only change to the account is the data plan. Your iPhone data plan would be removed and the Blackberry service would be added.

Since you are switching back to the BB Bold, are you going to have any problems with your contract with at&t? Does it reset it once you switch phones mid-contract, after the 30 day return period? I am in a similar situation, in that I have been contemplating switching back to the BB Bold. I had problems with the BB Bold and didn't give it a chance and switched to the iPhone. Now I want to BB Bold back.

It would be nice if you could elaborate on this. I thought the big bang occured everywhere and space expanded? How could it have an origin point relative to us? Do you mean the natural vector our matter just happened to get pulled and tossed because of other matter around it at the beginning of the universe, compounded over time? Stars move, clusters and galaxies move, galaxy clusters and superclusters move. But if even IF the big bang had an origin point relative to us (assuming it doesn't wrap at the edges) that could be pinpointed, we have no idea where it is, or even if it's in our current cosmic horizon.
