Hints of grad school – I want my MBA

UPenn - Welcome to University City

Galina and I went on our first bike ride of Spring (pics). We rode past the Philadelphia Art Museum, along the riverfront and over to UPenn. A large part of the day was spent at a Wharton volleyball tournament with some great friends.

We met some new people while sitting in the bleachers and hanging out. It’s refreshing to visit and meet intelligent, driven, and interesting folks. While it’ll be a couple years before I can consider attending, I’m looking forward to it more than ever.

  1. Sol,

What is your motivation to get an MBA? Mine was a constant mockery of my boss that I do not have the business acumen to move up the food chain… Now I have my MBA in Global Management and can recognize every business mistake we make… Strangely disturbing.
    Cheers,

    Michael.

  2. A combination of three things: Education, contacts, and pedigree.

I want to run/start a company and recognize how the education will
help me make intelligent decisions, and how the latter two will result
    in funding and partnerships.

  3. Very plausible drivers. I found the learning and experience to be extremely valuable (University of Phoenix, MBA in Global Management). Surprisingly enough for a non-Ivy league school I learned a tremendous amount of practical, rather than purely academic, business principals. As far as contacts and pedigree is concerned, I was disappointed since most of the colleagues of mine did not have the same objectives. Drexel Executive MBA, Wharton, even Temple may provide better contacts.

  4. Sol, hope you have the financial backing in your new endeavor…a lot of people go in to an MBA thinking they will come out with higher salaries.

Agreed with Michael–well branded schools well help you develop your brand if you're looking for pedigree and contacts along with that education.
